Open Source People
Open source software is all the rage these days, and for good reason. The transparency of code forces people to write better software. In that same line, I propose that people be a little more 'Open Source'. Yeah, that's right, 'Open Source People.'
Wouldn't it be wonderful to know that the girl you've got the hots for is actually a heavy smoker, but she doesn't tell you because she's worried about what you'll think about her? Character flaws exposed initially are more tractable than when emotional entanglement becomes thick and gordian. And in the same way that you shouldn't lead someone on, perhaps concealing all those character flaws is just as damaging, causing exacerbation and magnifying problems down the road.
There are pitfalls in this philosophy. Appearances will always be important. This is human nature. Job interviews, first dates, and meeting new people will always require a bit of a faux personality.
I feel like Open Source People could make life a lot more comfortable, where people actually talk about their issues, as opposed to swerving around then like pot holes in a rocky road. Adults could stop masking dinner talbe conversation; stop beating around the bush; get things done; maybe help a person or two.
Open Source People requires a mature society, and it's not a panacea, but it might be a start.
